While our default elective group setup involves manually entering all courses that fulfill a particular requirement (see our Creating New Elective Groups page), our new Automatic Elective Group feature allows you to instead populate required courses using sets of criteria.
As an example, we can look at an elective group specifying “9 Credits of Computer Science Courses Numbered 200 or Higher.”
After navigating to the Add Elective Group form, you would click Add Courses by Criteria under the Elective Group Section.

Then, you would click Add Criteria to input as many criteria as you need in order to pull in the correct set of courses, using the Type, Parameter Field, Operation, and Text filters.

In this case, you would need one criteria set to include both the CS course prefix and course numbers 200 and greater.

Once you save, you would see that all Computer Science courses numbered 200 and higher have been pulled to display within this elective group.

The above information details how to create one criteria set that pulls the correct list of courses into an elective group. It may be the case, however, that you need to create multiple criteria sets to ensure all relevant courses are included.
An example of this is an elective group calling for a “3-Credit Art, Film, Design, or Music Course.” In this case, you need to click Add Courses by Criteria for each course criteria set.
One criteria set would be Include > Course Item Number > Starts with > ART and Include > Credits > Is equal to > 3.

The next sets would encompass criteria for Film courses, then Design courses, then Music courses.
Once collapsed, you should be able to see each list of courses that was pulled.

Here are a few other helpful hints:
It makes it easier to see which course set you’re adding criteria to if you collapse each set as you finish.
There are other criteria options other than the ones covered here. For example, you can exclude data, and you can choose from the following parameter fields and operations:
